“I had always been in decent shape but was getting married and wanted to look great in the dress. I signed up for boot camp classes with Jeanette, thinking I would stop after the wedding and go back to my semi-healthy lifestyle. That was 6 years and I am still at it.
I did my first show 4 years and will be taking the stage again this weekend. This journey has taught me so much about myself. Most people see the physical results of competing, the beautiful, toned physique from all the hard work think it is just a matter of working out often. They have no idea how much of the process the mental and complete dedication. I have had to turn down many nights out with friends, dinner dates with family and work events to keep on track. I have learned that it is OK to say no, my family and true friends are still there for me. It’s OK to cry anytime, emotions cannot be controlled and it feels better to let them out. When you cheat on the diet you are only cheating yourself and it shows in the end result.
This journey has taught me so much about teamwork. I am a control freak and asking for help has always been an issue for me, I have always felt the need to do everything myself and should not count on other to help out. This process has shown me that asking for help is not a weakness, it is human. I can’t always do it by myself and there are always people around who are willing to provide support. I know that during the difficult times, someone is just a phone call or text away.
The biggest lesson has been that change can happen, it takes time, patience support of those around you but with hard work and dedication anything is possible.” -Kelley
